Razor clamming at Twin Harbors
A reliable, easy-access favorite between Willapa Bay and Grays Harbor, paired with a state park full of cabins and campsites.
Live status arrives with our alert service. Today, always confirm with WDFW before you go.
Twin Harbors stretches from the mouth of Willapa Bay north to the south jetty at Grays Harbor, just below Westport. It’s one of the most dependable, beginner-friendly digs in the state — easy to reach, easy to park, and right next to a state park that makes it simple to turn a dig into a weekend.
Getting on the beach
There are maintained public approaches at Grayland Beach Road, Cranberry Beach Road, Midway Beach Road, and Warrenton Cannery Road. Any of these can close temporarily after erosion or flooding, so it’s worth having a backup in mind.
Twin Harbors State Park, about two miles south of Westport, has cabins, yurts, and RV and tent sites — a popular base camp for diggers chasing a multi-day series, especially in the cold months when you’d rather not drive home in the dark after an evening dig.
Tides and timing
Dig the low: get to the sand one to two hours before the listed low tide. Winter digs are in the evening (pack a light), spring digs in the morning. The nearest official tide reference is Westport (NOAA station 9441102) at the Grays Harbor entrance, just to the north — apply a local correction for the beach itself.
When can you dig?
Twin Harbors is one of the four main WDFW-managed beaches and opens on announced dig dates. WDFW posts tentative days in the fall and confirms each series as final only after the Department of Health clears recent clam samples for marine toxins, usually a few days ahead. Wait for the final confirmation before you load the truck.
Before you go
- Daily limit: 15 razor clams per person; keep the first 15 you dig, each digger’s in a separate container.
- License: Required for anyone 16+. See limits & licenses.
- Safety: Open doesn’t mean toxin-safe — check before you dig.
